Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! I am so excited and blessed to be your teacher this year. Below and attached you will find information that will make you successful in my classroom. Make sure to keep this safe in your Religion folder so that you are aware of our class goals and expectations.

My Expectations & Rules

1)      All students must come prepared to Religion and Spanish class. Make sure you come to our class everyday with BOTH your Spanish and Religion supplies. This includes your:

Religion textbook (Brown Bag Covered)

Religion folder

Religion notebook

Spanish textbook (7/8 grade only) (Covered)

Spanish folder

Spanish notebook

Spanish/English Dictionary

Merit Card

Green Hall Pass Sheet

Agenda

WORKING pencil with an eraser

2)      Be on time. If you come 4 minutes after Religion is supposed to begin, you will be considered late. This time could be shortened if you do not use your passing time wisely. (8:19am for 7th/8th,  9:49am for 6th, 12:49pm for 5th).

3)      Cell phones, Mp3 players, video game systems, or any other electronics are NEVER permitted in our class. If you have them during homeroom you must turn them into your homeroom teacher first thing in the morning and she will return them at the end of the day. If you are caught with any electronic device it will be sent to Mrs. Martin and your parents must come get it. See the Student/Parent handbook for more details on this policy.

4)      Homework will be assigned between 3-5 nights a week in both of our classes (Spanish and Religion). Coming to class with incomplete homework will result in a loss of 1 Merit and missed homework points. Use your awesome new Agenda everyday so you do not forget your work .

In addition to following my expectations you must follow Holy Ghost Catholic School’s rules:

1)      Keep hands, feet, objects, and comments to self.

2)      Listen to and follow directions from all adults.

3)      Ask permission before leaving supervised area.

4)      Be friendly, respectful, and caring to all.

5)      Keep all non-essential items at home.

Any student who goes against any of the above expectations or rules will lose a Merit from their Merit Card or further consequences. If you lose a Merit you cannot get a Warm Fuzzy. What is a Warm Fuzzy you ask?

Warm Fuzzy: At the end of the day if you bring a full Merit Card (20 Merits) and a completed Assignment Notebook to your homeroom teacher at the end of day you will receive 1 warm fuzzy (fuzzy cotton ball). Once you have collected 5 successfully you can trade them in to your homeroom teacher for a piece of candy. Make sure this is after school and your homeroom teacher is not busy.

Absent: Well feel better! Students will follow the one day for each sick day to catch up on late work. See the missed work folder for your class near the INFO board. It is your responsibility to check in late work once you have completed it.

Tips:

  • All should be aware of the INFO board which has exciting stuff such as class schedules, lunch menu, school calendar, supplies needed and mass schedule. This wall is your friend.

  • All should also be aware of our “Prayer Corner” which I have designed to help you find prayer cards, meditations, or scripture passages that help you grow in your faith.

  • DO NOT USE GOOGLE TRANSLATOR, BABELFISH, FREE TRANSLATION, OR ANY SIMILAR SITE. I can tell if you are using it and it often comes up with INCORRECT words. I will show you better options and you also have your Spanish to English Dictionaries.

  • Work on letting go of your fear of speaking Spanish. We will practice. It will be fun, but challenging at times. Support one another. If you need help, ASK! I am here to help you, as well as hold you accountable.
